Kashmir Valley is caught in a vicious circle of 'stone pelting-firing-death-protest-stone pelting- firing-death' for the last two months or so. Every new day brings about new facet of this tragic scenario ín Kashmir - the Heaven on Earth! I am sure the sage poet Amir Khusru would be pained to see the sorry state of the land which mesmerized him so much with its beauty and tranquility that the following couplet flowed from his pen: "Gar jannat bar rue-zameen asto.. Hameen asto.. Hameen asto.. Hameen asto in its praise. This loosely translates as "If there is heaven on earth, it is this, it is this, it is this".
What went wrong to this land of sages, peers and dastagirs, the reshis and munis; what is it that the youth of Kashmir today is willing to sacrifice his life pelting stone at armed forces; what is it that pulls them in this human tragedy; what is it? Wish some one could have answer to all these questions which mocks our helplessness. The Indian civil society today does not know how to handle this situation. The so called learned and armchair, TV studio pests are airing their bloated views through the numerous channels and in the process creating utter chaos in the minds of the common man.
I am not a Kashmiri though, but my heart bleeds for the young men and women who were born during the peak of militancy in the valley and today when they are educated and looking for avenues and opportunity for employment and channelising their energy and youth towards productive and economic pursuit they find themselves helpless as no source of employment and business appears in the sight. Though there are job opportunities for those who are willing to relocate out of the valley into the metro cities, but there is little hope for those who want to contribute to the growth and welfare of their home state, for them there is no job, no industry and no economic security. The so called benevolent mega corporates of this country have not even bothered to look at setting up any industry in the valley or even Jammu. For these corporates Kashmir is too dangerous a place to do business and invest.. too unpredictable venture which may not provide the required 'ROI'and 'ËBIDITA'.
